The Faculty of Political Science at the University of Kufa held a panel discussion entitled (China in the Middle East: a geopolitical approach (opportunities and challenges)) and the lecturer was Dr.
The seminar dealt with the Middle East region of great importance in the international system, as it connects the East and the West, and is characterized by important shipping lanes and straits in facilitating the movement of global trade, in addition to the enjoyment of the Middle East region with many natural resources, especially in the field of oil and gas, as it is of origin The region also witnessed a geopolitical conflict during the Cold War, and it is one of the important areas of conflict between international powers, especially in light of the transformation of the international system into unipolarity. Therefore, China reconfigured its policies towards the Middle East, and sought to achieve unprecedented expansion in the region and highlight its presence in all vital areas, despite China’s neglect of the Middle East region previously, as it did not occupy much space in Beijing’s plans, so Beijing aims to secure its economic and security interests in The Middle East and restoring balance to its internal, external and security policies due to the increasing importance of the strategic geographic region, in conjunction with the launch of the new Silk Road initiative that was officially announced by Chinese President (Xi Jinping) in September of 2013.
